Designing Your Own Player Character
[00:00:00] Okay, I am going to create my own player character today. I am really excited. Let's see. "Nicole's Player Character."
I prefer to draw a picture and write words, but you can always talk about your character, tell a story, just think about your character, whatever makes sense to you. My character's name, I don't know what my character's name is going to be yet... Let me think about the personality of my character first... Um hmm.
What kind of being or creature do I want my character to be? I think I want my character to be a tiny elf.
She's going to be wearing a skirt. [00:01:00] She/Her will be her pronouns. Yeah, she's gonna be like a total of three inches tall. I'm gonna have, try to give her a hand that's sticking up and waving. Let's see. She's a tiny elf. She's gonna have some pointy ears and, ooh, maybe a crown. Maybe she is a ruler of a kingdom.
I am gonna make it pink. Let's see. I have glasses, so I'm gonna give my fairy glasses, like me.
There we go. And then I want my fairy to have curly rainbow hair. Oh wait, is she a fairy or an elf? I said fairy, but I, maybe she'll be a fairy elf.[00:02:00]
Because why not? My fairy elf is going to have curly rainbow hair.
Oh, I love it. Okay. And now I can think of a name for her. Let's give her some rosy cheeks. I would like for her to be named. Penelope,
Penelope Twinkle Toes because Why not? And she's a fairy elf, so I wanted to have some wings, some small wings so she can fly if she'd like.
Okay, perfect. So I have the base of my character, a fairy elf, but yours might be an animal person, maybe an alien, a robot, um, [00:03:00] literally anything that comes from your brain, a monster even. Okay. Let's see. What do I want my character Penelope, to be able to do in her group? I definitely want her to be an adventurer.
Let's write that in a darker color. I'd want her to go on adventures. Adventures. I want her, hmm. I want her to be really cool at, or really good at, building cool gadgets. I want her to be like an inventor. So actually I'm gonna give her what's like a tinkering tool that she could hold in her hand? I'm gonna try to draw maybe like a hammer.
How do you draw a hammer? A hammer. [00:04:00] And then, yeah, I'm gonna also give her a tool belt with lots of tools and tinkering tools because she's really good at building cold gadgets. So I want her to be prepared for inventing any kind of gadget or invention that she wants to make. Whenever she's ready,
her skirt's gonna need some pockets for all of her tools. Maybe I'll give her some boots too, so she can go on her adventures. Okay. I also want her to be really good at paying attention to the details around her. She's gonna have really sharp eyes and she's gonna be really good at building cool gadgets and noticing and observing things, [00:05:00] perceiving things. So she's gonna use these great eyes and these great glasses to notice her world around her, and maybe that's how she comes up with her. Inspiration to build new inventions. Hmm. Okay. Now I already have some items that she's carrying with her, her tool belt, her tools, but I think I might want Penelope to have another special item.
I don't know what I think I'm gonna roll for it. I have a table here that will tell me, um, what extra special item Penelope gets to carry. So, let's see. I'm gonna get a. Um, six sided die, the one that looks like a cube and roll it, and it will tell me what extra item I get. Let's see, and if you'd like to follow along, you can do that too on your item list.
I got a number five. Let's see. Oh, that [00:06:00] gets a special stuffy that offers comfort and maybe even a little magic. Ooh, that's a really good one. Okay. So Penelope gets a stuffy. She's running out of room. I'm gonna put the stuffy here in this hand, stuffy. I really like cats. I'm gonna make cat stuffy, and this cat stuffy is going to have magical powers.
I don't know what kind of magical powers yet. But the cat stuffy will have magical powers I'll come up with more later. So she's gonna always hold this stuffy in her hand. I'm gonna give the stuffy some, maybe some like shimmers and twinkles since Stuffy's magical. Okay. Hmm. What else do I wanna think about for my character?
Penelope. What are they good at? What is, what are their strengths? I already know that [00:07:00] she likes to go for adventures, build cool inventions and gadgets. She's really good at noticing and observing things. What else? Is there anything else I want her to be good at? I think I like that. I think I feel comfortable with this.
I'm gonna add that she's an inventor.
Cool. She's got all of her tools there. Awesome. And maybe since she's really good at noticing and observing things. I will give her a pair of binoculars here as well that she can keep in her adventuring pack if she needs it, so she can really observe lots of things. Oh, I'm excited. Okay. Let's see what else.
I'm gonna draw some more details here. I'm gonna color in. [00:08:00] Her skirt and her adventuring boots.
Maybe. Maybe her crown could also double as like a helmet to keep her safe. Since she's like building lots of things. I'll make it kind of like into a helmet, but also a crown because. She's royalty because why not? I've got a little pocket here on her shirt so she can hold more tools. Put some tools in her pocket.
Okay, nice. So this is Penelope Twinkle Toes, my fairy elf. I am really excited to maybe play a game with her, maybe think of a story or just I share about her with someone else. I'm gonna sign it, Nicole.
And [00:09:00] I'm excited to maybe find someone who I can share about this with, and I'm excited to find out about your characters too.
