Why the Pause Symbol
You’ve probably noticed our new logo has a pause symbol in it – those two parallel vertical lines.
This was really intentional.
We believe pausing is foundational to everything neuroaffirming. Pause before responding. Pause to attune. Pause to let the nervous system settle. Pause to rest – because you can’t pour from an empty cup, and burnout helps no one.
When we pause, we create space to be curious. To wonder what a child’s body might need instead of telling them what it needs. To ask questions instead of making assumptions.
This connects directly to how sensory processing actually works. Pausing gives the nervous system time to process input before we pile on more. It shows respect for how bodies and brains actually function – not how we wish they would function.
Pausing is countercultural: we live in a world that pushes fast-forward on everything. Quick fixes. Rapid results. Get the kid to comply, get them to “behave,” move on to the next thing.
Our pause symbol is a quiet rebellion against that. We all need to slow down, observe, wait, attune, and rest more.
The two lines in the pause symbol also represent something else: two people, side by side. Adult and child. Therapist and client. Educator and student.
Support that is beside, not top-down.
That’s what co-regulation looks like. That’s what connection looks like. And that’s what we’re building here.
